my idea

My idea for my subculture is boaters. I think this is a type of people that is more common than we think yet not many people talk to them about why they do what they do. what ill be researching is what types of boats are out there and how do the people differ between each type of boat? What are safety requirements and regulations on the water and how are these requirements enforeced? There is many different ideas that this subject can cover, even modern boating technology like dept finders and fish finders for fishermen, also i can even go in depth about how fishermen "know the water" as in high and low spots or where stumps are. Another idea that no one wants to talk about is accidents. What happens to rescue injured after a wreck? Can you get a ticket for causeing an acident? My plan is to find out all of this info my reserching goverment sites, going to local marina's and talking with local fishermen. I find this interesting and i have lots of questions to ask them and most boaters are kind and i feel they will be very open with me so i will be able to deliver very detailed answers. I do know the boating culture somewhat so i do have a idea of what im getting into. My grandparents have a pontoon boat and every time we pass people they wave and we wave back. Awhile ago there was a commersial on t.v. about getting people to boat more and it was a family walking through a store and they would wave at every one and the people would look back at them as if they were crazy and then thay got on their boat and waved at people and the other guys would wave back and they felt at home, i thought  it was so funny.

  3. just went boating on the Mississippi Sunday for the first time and it was nicer than the Kaskaskia there were over forty boats on the north side of Moores island. talking to conservation and water patrol could be helpful and i think there is a Kaskaskia boat club you could talk to

  7. So are you talking about sports fishermen? Or folks floating around in a speed boat or pontoon boat kicking back a few beers?-- Two very different groups. Tell us which ones. Tell us which marinas, and provide us with pictures and plenty of interviews.
I've had folks do this to some success, but it has always been in the spring or summer months. So if you are planning on doing this, go to your locations asap. Also, you may want to check out shops like Cope Marine up in O'Fallon, which sell boating supplies and all types of craft.

  8. This is a cool topic. I am a boat lover. We own a boat and it is a lot of fun. There are a lot of rules and regulations when it comes to boating. There are weight and passenger limits on boats, depending on the size of the boat. You can get a ticket for causing an accident. You can also get a BWI, boating while intoxicated. You could also talk to the water patrol police. I am sure they would have a lot of interesting stories to tell, as well as helpful information. Good Luck!

  9. You definitly need to narrow it down. Perhaps boats on a specific lake or a specific type of boaters. Such as Chris Kraft has its own following of people who only use their boats.
